I began volunteering with Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA) in September 2017 as their Media and PR volunteer alongside my masters programme. Throughout the majority of my time I would work one day a week in the headquarters based in Bracebridge Heath.
I worked closely with their media officer and was involved with a number of projects, including researching and gathering quotes for a mobile game. The mobile game was an idea generated in co-operation with the University of Lincoln, and I was tasked with analysing the feasibility and cost of moving ahead with the project.
As part of my role I often interviewed stakeholders such as fundraisers, staff members and volunteers. From this I was often asked to produce press releases and other materials for use on the website, social media or the quarterly publication. I also regularly updated social media and event listings, and produced contact lists for relevant publications.
I was also lucky enough to take part a project day for the organisation where staff from across the organisation brainstormed a new campaign and completed various activities surrounding the messaging and images surrounding it.
I found my time with LNAA incredibly rewarding. Professionally, I was able to develop and practice a number of relevant skills that will help me moving forward in my career. Personally, being able to see and support the fantastic work that they do every single day was something I will never forget.
